As a requirement of association membership, all member hotels must pledge to uphold the requirements that make up our Code of Ethics. Setting this standard for membership, allows us to ensure that the goal of continually reducing the environmental impact each member hotel is met. The Eco-Conscious Hotel Association and its members are committed to environmental protection and sustainability. Our Code of Ethics strives to minimize our members’ operational impact on the environment. Members of the Eco-Conscious Hotel Association pledge to:
Failure to dutifully and faithfully uphold the Eco-Conscious Hotel Association Code of Ethics can and will result in revocation of membership.
- Make an annual commitment to reduce environmental impact by setting achievable goals
- Make environmental considerations an important part of decision making
- Follow environmental best practices
- Comply with environmental legislation
- Preserve natural and cultural heritage
- Contribute to local environmental initiatives
- Build local partnerships
- Consider the opinions and feedback of stakeholders
- Empower guests and colleagues to identify areas for improvement and innovation
- Establish a Eco Effort committee
- Elect a leader of the Eco Effort committee
- Green the supply chain and buy local when reasonable
- Minimize waste streams
- Conserve water
- Conserve electricity
- Minimize the use of petroleum products
- Utilize renewable energy suppliers when reasonable
- Employ green construction practices
